For shirt development, include collar and cuff preferences, the desired fit, material direction, size range, colours and quantities, together with sketches or a technical pack and your delivery target.

Collar, cuff
and proportion.

The collar and placket establish the visual line of a shirt. Agree collar shape, button spacing and the desired front opening, then balance the shoulder and sleeve volume. Review the cuff with the sleeve both down and rolled. Set the hem shape and side length according to how the garment is intended to be worn, and check that the front closes comfortably during movement.

From crisp
to softly draped.

A crisp woven cloth gives the collar and placket more definition, while a softer fabric creates a relaxed fall. Compare opacity, surface texture and crease behaviour in the intended colour. The choice of interfacing should be discussed with the fabric rather than specified in isolation. Confirm material composition, weight and care requirements after the fabric is agreed.

Shirt development priorities

Confirm collar dimensions, shoulder width, bust ease, sleeve length, cuff opening and hem shape. Review the placket and button placement with the intended fit, including how the shirt looks tucked and untucked.

Bring trims into the brief

Coordinate buttons, spare buttons, collar labels and care labels with your brand direction. Share artwork, placement and packing requirements early so trim choices complement the fabric and intended retail presentation.
