Pleat width, depth and placement change both the look and the amount of fabric in a skirt. Establish the waist treatment and closure first, then check the pleats from the waist through to the hem. A fitting should review ease at the hip, how the pleats open while walking and whether the hem remains level. Assess the intended appearance after the proposed care process before signing off the construction.
Material selection should support the intended pleat definition and movement. Compare the weight, opacity and surface of the shortlisted fabrics, and discuss the pleating method with the development team. A lining may be considered according to colour, coverage and comfort. Confirm composition, care instructions and any required testing with the selected fabric.
